7 Hills Of Kirkland Bike Ride
April 29, 2019
Each year, the 7 Hills of Kirkland Bike Ride attracts over 1,000 riders and community members to help raise money for Attain Housing, a local organization working to help end homelessness here on the Eastside.
The Memorial Day tradition-filled event received its name from originally being a 35-mile ride that consisted of the 7 hills of Kirkland. Now riders can choose from three different paths, 40,60, and 100 miles. One thing that has not changed is all of the unique traditions, including a band at the start and finish of the race in Marina Park. Oh and did we mention, you get shortcake when you complete the ride? Last year our own Rob Scarber of Windermere Kirkland baked 1,000 servings of shortcake himself! And the most unique tradition of all has to be the bagpiper standing on the hill playing as riders bike past.
This year Attain Housing is closing registration at 1,500 riders, who are encouraged to set up their own CrowdRise fundraiser with their friends and family to raise money for the organization. In 2018, the 7 Hills of Kirkland Bike Ride was able to raise $100,000 for Attain Housing’s Eviction Program through biker registrations along with money raised by the community. This program helps anyone living on the Eastside who is about to lose their housing. In most cases, a momentary need for financial help rather than a long term problem, such as a medical bill or car problems, has prevented them from paying rent. With the help from Attain Housing, all 100% of Eviction Program recipients are still in their homes 3 months later.
We at Windermere Kirkland are proud to be gold level sponsors of such an incredible event that not only brings the community together but helps to prevent future homelessness by making sure that our community members can keep living in their homes. Our team here at Windermere is passionate about making sure everyone has a home and we are thankful to the Attain Housing, who can make that happen for our community here on the Eastside.
Not a bike rider? Not to worry! You don’t have to be signed up for the ride to enjoy all of the festivities. Bring the whole family to enjoy booths that showcase vendors, food, and music, with something for everyone in the family! And don’t forget to come by and say hi to the many Windermere staff that will be riding, volunteering and enjoying the day! See you on May 27th! #wearekirkland
